The Disney Channel To Introduce It’s First Gay Teen Storyline

The Disney Channel is introducing a gay storyline for the first time in its show Andi Mack a coming-of-age show that revolves around 13-year-old girl Andi and her friends Cyrus, Buffy and Jonah.

The season two premiere which airs on Friday will  send  “a powerful message about inclusion and respect for humanity” according to a Disney spokesperson.

The statement added that the show’s creator, Terri Minsky – who also made the hit Disney show Lizzie McGuire – and her team took “great care in ensuring that it’s appropriate for all audiences.”

n the season premiere, Andi is dealing with feelings for a boy she knows when her best friend Cyrus realises that he has feelings for the same boy.

Cyrus’s story develops in later episodes as he begins to understand himself better with the help of his friends and family.

Disney worked with Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG), the US’s biggest LGBT youth organization to create the story-line.

Their executive director Dr Jaime Grant said: “Coming out requires honest self-reflection, no small amount of bravery and a safe place with at least one trusted person.

“Andi Mack’s creative team captures this moment of revelation with such thought, care, and authenticity, it will be a memory moment for some, and a teachable moment for many.”

Andi Mack’s average viewer age is 10 years old so expect boycotts, condemnations, and the gnashing of teeth from Christian Nationalist LGBT hate groups like the Family Research Council to begin shortly.

MARVEL Comics Gets Gayer! – Gay Romantic Couple To Be Prominent Characters In “Young Avengers”

Marvel comics is putting renewed focus on its Avengers comics series and past spin-offs like the Young Avengers, about a teen of young superheroes who haven’t  quite reached the level of Captain America or Iron Man.

In the new Young Avengers #1  which hits  stores on  January 23,  Wiccan and Hulkling, one of mainstream comics’ most prominent (and cutest)  gay couples that were actually a part of an earlier Young Avengers series that ended some years  back will be re-introduced and will be  the new series.

Young Avenger’s writer Kieron Gillen states that Wiccan will make a big mistake that threatens his relationship with the  shapeshifting Hulkling in upcoming issues and they will be the “core romantic couple of Young Avengers.”

So awesome!

Glee’s Darren Criss (Blaine, Kurt Hummell’s New Gay "Friend") Comes Out As STRAIGHT!

Vanity Fair journalist Brett Berk asked Glee actor Darren Criss in a roundabout way if he was gay

It’s a subject that’s very near and dear to my heart, simply because I grew up in such an open community—doing theater in San Francisco. I mean, it doesn’t get much, stereotypically, “gayer.” I was inadvertently raised in the “gay community.” I had straight parents, but I spent massive amounts of time at a very early age with gay, theater-hopeful thirty-somethings. And those were the people I spent time with early on, so my whole perception of “sexuality” just wasn’t there. It just…was. It even got to the point where, later in life… I had all the components in place. I was, well, not super effeminate, but I was into girly things—I liked musical theater, all the stereotypical things. I had to come out and say, well, I’m sorry, but I think I’m straight. And people were like, say it ain’t so! And I would say, “It’s been a secret too long, but I’m actually a straight male.”

And so for the longest time when people asked me about Blaine, I wanted to say It doesn’t matter. And it doesn’t. But I don’t want to devalue it, because it’s a very earnest question, and I can see why people would want to know. And I realized that if I said, It doesn’t matter, that immediately means that I’m gay. So I do define myself as a straight male, but it really doesn’t come into play with me in this role. As an actor, your objective is always to play the scene. And this case, he happens to be a gay teen.
Oh well.  We all can’t be perfect.  It just makes me wonder why Ryan Murphy didn;t cast another openly gay man in this role.  I am sure there are many just as talented and just as cute.  It would have made a real statement.

Darren Criss is talented, cute, and seems to be a really nice and intellegent guy and did a great job last night.  But why didn’t Ryan Murphy cast another openly gay actor in the role?  I would be nice to have some openly gay actors in a gay storyline on mainstream television.

Oh well, lets hold out some hope that Max Adler who plays the closted High School jock Dave Karofsky  plays for our side.  .

Why always cast straight men playing gay roles? There are TONS of openly gay musical theatre actors out there.

Daytime Soap "The Young and the Restless" To Begin Gay Storyline On August 26th As Out Actor Thom Bierdz Returns To The Show

Well “One Life To Live” may have punked out on it’s gay storyline but the “Young and the Restless” seem more than wiling to pick up the “gay baton”. 

Openly gay actor Thom Bientz started shooting his scenes and the new gay storyline will begin on August 26th, according to to CBS Soaps in Depth.

48 year old Bierdz, who is openly gay, and STILL HOTTER THAN HELL, plays Phillip Chancellor III, a closeted gay man who faked his death to live his life openly elsewhere. The character returned last summer and came out to the family he left behind, including his son Phillip Chancellor IV, played by John Driscoll.

Last year’s coming out storyline was interesting because it reversed the dynamics of the story. “Most of the time, it’s the son coming out to the father and in this case, it was the father coming out to the son,” Driscoll said.

Let’s hope that The Young and the Restless handels the gay storyline in a much more mature way than “One Life To Live” did.

Dear God where is Tina Lord when you need her?

Okay lets face it.  Soap operas are dying. And for good reason.

One Life to Live who recently cancelled it’s “groundbreaking” gay storyline between Kyle and Fish due to “low ratings” (and shitty writing) have come up with the inexplicably misguided answer ever to bring ratings back up: a musical number! Kids love American Idol and Glee! This will boost the ratings! Sadly, the result is almost too horrible to describe.  It’s a train wreck. 

OLTL want to get your ratings up? 

Fire your writers and creative consultants.  That would be a good start.

(Oh and bring back Kyle and Fish,  At least you’ll get your gay audience back)

BE WARNED – Possible Spoilers Ahead!

In an interview with About.com Sam Trammell, who plays the shapeshifting puppy and bartender Sam Merlotte, revealed a few eyebrow raising details. When asked about the rumored Vampire Bill/Sam Merlotte sex scene, Sam only replied: 

“The cat is out of the bag. I can’t say anything more than that… because people want to be surprised, but there is something that people will be talking about.”

Sounds promising  And we say EXCELLENT. The more vamp sex with lovable stick-in-the-mud Bill, the better. But that’s not all Sam revealed about the new season:

My biological family is a big part of my story line. There’s some flashbacks to my past, and how I was able to stay afloat as a teenager on the streets, and some of the things I had to do. We really get deep. It’s really good

So maybe Sam sold his blood and thats not all to stay afloat as a teenager living on the streets?  The possibilties are endless and exciting.

Kyle & Fish Storyline To Be Dropped From "One Life To Live" Because of Low Ratings

The Fish/Kyle (Scott Evans and Brett Claywell) gay storyline will be written out of One Life to Live by mid-April, TV Guide reported:

“Word is, the decision to drop the duo didn’t come easily. Kish has been a big success with the media and the show’s gay fans, and gay-advocacy groups have showered OLTL with awards for creating the trail-blazing couple. But sources at the network say the duo failed to resonate with the mainstream audience. Ratings for the ABC soap were particularly dismal in late 2009 during the weeks that Fish came out of the closet and he and Kyle officially became a couple. Also playing simultaneously was a sprawling plot that had Robin Strasser’s character, Dorian, pretending to be a lesbian in order to win the gay vote in the Llanview mayoral race. A case of gay overkill?”

Said executive producer Frank Valentini: “We are concluding the story that we set out to tell with Kyle and Fish. We are very proud to have broken new ground with a same-sex couple on daytime.”

AfterElton.com must be having a meltdown.

In a way this stinks to HIGH HEAVEN.  Kyle and Fish have not been center of this show EVER!! They’re using the ratings fail as an excuse.to either cover their sucky writing and storylines or perhaps pressure from the more conservative affiliates out there.

Well at least they tried.  But they could have done a hell of alot better.  OLTL has literally sucked for years now.

Hey OLTL want to bring back your ratings?  Let a gay man take over the Kyle/Fish storyline and bring back TINA LORD.  Andrea Evans could use the work.
