Daniel Hernandez, the 20-year-old gay intern who is responible for helping save Rep. Gabrielle Giffords life, was honored as a hero last night at the Memorial for the victims of the Tuscon AZ shooting last Saturday.
Hernandez delivered a terrific and humble speech where he rejected being called a “hero” and called on everyone to honor others that were there that night, and those who dedicate their lives to public service.
After 72 hours of silence and scrubbing her Facebook and Twitter accounts clean Sarah Palin has released a video statement about the tragedy in Arizona that left left six dead, many wounded and Rep. Gabrielle Giffords fighting for her life in which she blames the the media with “blood libel” for linking conservatives to the tragedy.
Responsibility lies “not collectively with all the citizens of a state, not with those who listen to talk radio, not with maps of swing districts used by both sides of the aisle, not with law-abiding citizens who respectfully exercise their First Amendment rights at campaign rallies, not with those who proudly voted in the last election,” – .”Especially within hours of a tragedy unfolding, journalists and pundits should not manufacture a blood libel that serves only to incite the very hatred and violence they purport to condemn, That is reprehensible.”
Palin makes no excuses, takes no responsibility, makes no call for the end of hateful danger vitriol and in fact defends it under the Constitution.

Daniel Hernandez is a hero. The 20 year old gay intern to Gabriel Gifford with only five days on the job saved Gabrielle Giffords’life. Daniel ran towards the shots, pressed a Safeway workers’ aprons against the Gabrielle’s head wound , and held her hands as the stretcher holding Gabrielle was loaded into the ambulance. Daniel is being hailed and recognized as a hero and rightfully so. But still negative comments about his sexuality flood comment sections across the Internet universe by hateful bigots.
An opinion piece in the LA Times this morning reminds us of another heroic gay man named Oliver Sipple who 35 years ago, on Sept. 22, 1975, as President Gerald Ford was leaving the hotel thwarted an assassination attempt of Ford by Charles Manson follower Sara Jane Moore who was standing next to Sipple raised a .38-caliber pistol and aimed it at the President Ford, fired one shot and missed, before Sipple grabbed her arm and took her down.
But 1975 was a different time and while the news coverage changed Sipple’s life, and not for the better
Oliver “Billy” W. Sipple (November 20, 1941–February 2, 1989) was a decorated US Marine and Vietnam War veteran. Though he was known to be gay among members of the gay community, and had even participated in Gay Pride events, Sipple’s sexual orientation was a secret from his family. He asked the press to keep his sexuality off the record, making it clear that neither his mother nor his employer. later Herb Caen, a columnist at The San Francisco Chronicle, exposed Sipple as a gay man and a friend of Harvey Milk’s. Sipple was besieged by reporters, as was his family. His mother, a staunch Baptist in Detroit, refused to speak to him even though he saved the Presidents life.
Havey Milk once opined that Sipple’s sexuality got him only a letter of thanks from Ford, rather than an invitation to the White House. Ford disputed the claim in 2001 that Sipple was treated differently because of his sexual orientation, saying, “As far as I was concerned, I had done the right thing and the matter was ended.
The saddest part about the correlation of these two men, these two gay heroes is that even though 35 years have passed that negative comments are still being made about orientation of Hernandez and even Sipple to this day despite the selfless acts that they performed for another human being and their country is abhorrent and just proves how far we have really not come in 35 years.
There are many gay heroes throughout history. Hernandez, Sipple, and let us not forget Mark Bingham and many more
It is up to us to recognize them, remember them, honor them, and defend them until such time as equality is achieved and bigotry is thwarted.
In what has to be one of the most truly disgusting, despicable, and insensitive posts and turn of events on the Internet yesterday to do with the shootings in Arizona over at Sarah Palins Facebook page while Ms. Palin or her staff of fellow loons were busy scrubbing off every negative comment about Palin that appeared on within minutes of posting at 18:12 a posting from a horrid subhuman thing named Tina King posted:
“It’s ok. Christina Taylor Green was probably going to end up a left wing bleeding heart liberal anyway. Hey, as ‘they’ say, what would you do if you had the chance to kill Hitler as a kid? Exactly.”
Christina Taylor Green was the innocent 9 year old that was shot and killed.
Did the Palin camp delete this comment NO. It stayed up. Even as they moved forward deleting other anti-Palin posts that appeared well after it.
THIS is who Sarah Palin and her people really are. Make no argument about it.
The failure to remove a highly insensitive and offensive remark about a dead child… a dead 9-year-old child… is so… abhorrent. And this, from a person (and her staff) who portrays herself as a right-to-life advocates is truly disgusting beyond words. I guess the right to life does not apply to 9-year-old children as long as Palin is defended first.

Since the tragic events on Saturday that left left six dead, many wounded and Rep. Garbrielle Giffords fighting for her life news outlets and social networks have become a war zone. On one side you have people condemning the violent rhetoric and hate speech that helps fuel incidents like this and on the other we have Sarah Palin and the Tea Party constituents who claim no responsibility that messages of hate can lead to violence and continue to defend their right “right to freedom of speech”
Enter on the scene whackjob and right wing “lesbian” Tammy Bruce. Bruce who describes her as a “gay, pro-choice, gun owning, pro-death penalty, Tea Party Independent Conservative” (or in other words a stark raving loon) presented a podcast last night featuring Rebecca Mansour, of SarahPAC who had a very busy 36 hours scrubbing Palin’s Twitter and Facebook account clean of all “targeting” images and mentions. Bruce and Mansour spent the 36 minutes defending Palin and, insisting the ex-governor is also a victim in the Tucson shooting tragedy. Just reading the comments left on Tammy Bruce’s website gives one a glimpse into the diseased minds of these people and the deep seeded anger, anti-socialism, and borderline psychosis of the right and Tea Party who are so deluded and blind that they can’t even see that inciting to violence in and form by anyone is highly irresponsible and dangerous
If Bruce, Mansour and the rest truly believe that Sarah Palin is immaculately immune to the heinous shootings that have occurred in Tucson, they must be delusional lunatics. “Mama Grizzly” Palin has been a drooling advocate for violent, “lock-and-load” solutions to ending her opponents for many years, even before her quixotic assault into national politics.
If Palin and others had tried anything near the incendiary attacks on those she has targeted in other, more civilized countries like Canada or Great Britain, she would have been locked up long ago.
And as for Tammy Bruce she should be shunned by the LGBT Community. Insane traitors bitch that she is. And before anyone slams me out there. It IS NOT misogynist to call someone a bitch if that is what they truly are. And Tammy Bruce certainly fulfills the definition.

The point here is not that there is any connection between this random post and political violence. The point is the worldview Palin holds. It is zero-sum. It expresses itself in clear and stark violent imagery. It is constantly about attack, conflict, combat, “enemy territory”, “Big Guns”, battle. This rhetorical background is so deeply part of the narrative we barely notice it any more. The walking piece of shit (Fat) Matt Barber the anti-gay right wing Director of Cultural Affairs with both Liberty Counsel and Liberty Alliance Action. who has been back handedly advocating violence against LGBT individuals for years had the nerve to attack Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik about his comments after the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords who was shot in the head and a number of others were wounded or killed including a 9 year old girl.
“When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous,” said Dupnik and of course Barber takes offense at this since he is one of those people.
Barber knows that this tragedy (he can’t even spell the word, let alone feel anything for the victims) may be what turns things around so that people like Barber, Palin, Gallagher, Bachmann, Porno Pete, Beck, Angle, Perkins and the rest of those who vomit out hate speech and violent rhetoric and claim to be the only Americans of truth and virtue are finally held accountable for their words. While the majority of the country mourns and is angry at how we got to this point, these cowards are working overtime to distance themselves from their blatant responsibility for what America has become
