Actress Patricia Neal, who rebuilt a troubled career to win an Academy Award only to face a more desperate battle for survival when three strokes left her paralyzed and unable to speak or remember, has died.
Neal (84) died Sunday of lung cancer at her home in Edgartown, Mass
A succession of tragedies marked the life of the actress whose bright promise on Broadway in the mid-1940s took her to Hollywood and into a succession of lackluster films, as well as a desperate love affair with actor Gary Cooper and marriage to British writer Roald Dahl.
Among her many memorable performances that also include 1950’s A Face in the Crowd and 1960’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s (as the older “benefactor” of the handsome young writer) was her role as the heiress Dominque opposite Gary Cooper’s uncompromising architect Howard Roark in 1949’s The Fountainhead, the adaptation of the Ayn Rand novel. For three years afterward, Cooper and Neal carried on a torrid romance that ultimately ended when he refused to leave his wife and young daughter But most baby boomers will remember her for The Homecoming” (1971), which launched “The Waltons” series as the original “Ma Walton” and as “Helen” from the science fiction classic “The Day The Earth Stood Still” (1951)

Last years winner of Britan’s X-factor , 19 year old Joe McElderry has come out of the closet publ;ically just weeks after brteaking the news to his mother.
Via the UK Mirror:
.Joe has always denied rumours he was gay, but insisted the reason was he didn’t know himself until recently. He added: ‘I’ve had time to think about things. I wasn’t attracted to anyone anyway, male or female. It never really entered my head I was gay. But I just know. It’s how I feel.’ … But the 19-year-old has now bravely decided to tell the world he is gay – and the denials were down to the fact he never knew himself, until three weeks ago. And he said he is comfortable with his decision to come out publicly, declaring: ‘I’m happy. I now know who I am.’

Ellen DeGeneres will be leaving American Idol 4 years earlier than expected leaving just Kara DioGuardi (who may also be exiting stage left soon) and Randy Jackson.
According to Ellen:
“A couple months ago, I let FOX and the “American Idol” producers know that this didn’t feel like the right fit for me. I told them I wouldn’t leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for. I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on “Idol” and I am very grateful for the year I had. I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be.”
Fox is expected to announce to new panel of judges at Monday’s Television Critics Association presentation. Current rumours have Jessica Simpson and Chris Issak joining the panel of judges with some whisperings of perhaps Jennifer Lopez.
Besat of Luck to Ellen. It’s probably the best move fopr her. Idol’ doesn’t have that many seasons left. The series has seriously ran its course.
