GLADD Releases New Study, LGBT’s Are Underrepresented In Movies. DUH!

GLAAD wastes money

GLADD aka the artist organization formerly known as the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamationion has released a study finding that LGBT characters are grossly underrepresented in the movies.

GLAAD staffers reviewed (and wasted time and money) the 101 films released by 20th Century Fox, Paramount Pictures, Sony’s Columbia, Universal Pictures, Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros. to search for the presence of LGBT characters and content to only find out what we already know.

GLAAD gave Fox and Disney “failing” grades for the lack of “LGBT-inclusive films,” with Disney releasing one such movie, “The Avengers,” and Fox putting out none. The remaining four studios received “adequate” ratings. None received a grade of “good” or “excellent.”

“Hollywood films are one of the country’s most visible cultural exports. They not only impact culture in our country, but in other places too,” said GLAAD spokesman Wilson Cruz, who noted the recent passage of an anti-gay law in Russia that makes it a crime to publicly support “nontraditional” relationships. “It is a very timely report.”

Interstingly films released by the studios’ specialty imprints, such as Universal’s Focus Features, were not included in the tallies. Companies like Focus, Sony Pictures Classics and Fox Searchlight Pictures — all known for their independent sensibilities — released films in 2012 that featured LGBT characters. Under the parameters of GLAAD’s  “study”, the Academy Award winning film “Milk,” which was released by Focus in 2008, wouldn’t have been included in the tally if it were released today.

GLAAD considered whether to include those specialty imprints’ films in the tallies of pictures released by their parent companies, but opted not to in part because it wanted to focus on the area in which studios “commit the majority of their capital and promotional efforts.” (and were most probably the best to hit up for donations)

GLAAD which has lost relevancy and donations in the LGBT community due to recent scandals, mismanagement and lack of focus should know better than to waste of time and money answers that we already know and perhaps actually do something really meaningful to change them.

Anderson Cooper FINALLY Comes Out of The Closet: “The Fact Is, I’m Gay.”

American journalist, author, and primary anchor of the CNN news show Anderson Cooper 360, Anderson Hayes Cooper has FINALLY come out of the closet!

Andrew Sullivan in his column The Daily Dish today writes that as we  have  pastors calling for the death of gay people, bullying incidents and  suicides among gay kids, and one major political party dedicated to  ending the basic civil rights of LGBT individuals. That the visibility of gay Americans is one of the core means for our equality.

Sully in turn wrote to his friend Anderson Cooper who has notoriously been living in the “glass closet” for years now and asked him for his  feedback on this subject.

Anderson responded and finally, after all this time has come out of the closet and bluntly says that he is gay and has given Sullivan permission to reprint it:

Recently, however, I’ve begun to consider whether the unintended  outcomes of maintaining my privacy outweigh personal and professional  principle.   It’s become clear to me that by remaining silent on certain aspects of my personal life for so long, I have given some the mistaken impression that I am trying to hide something – something that makes me uncomfortable, ashamed or even afraid.  This is distressing because it  is simply not true.

I’ve also been reminded recently that while as a society we are  moving toward greater inclusion and equality for all people, the tide of history only advances when people make themselves fully visible.  There continue to be far too many incidences of bullying of young people, as  well as discrimination and violence against people of all ages, based on their sexual orientation, and I believe there is value in making clear  where I stand.

The fact is, I’m gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud.

Catholic Theologian Claims Much Of The Clergy Is Gay! – (Shocker Right?)

Theologian David Berger was a correspondent professor for the Pontifical Academy of St Thomas Aquinas in the Vatican, where he said his academic work was watched and censored where it concerned homosexuality.

As a gay man himself, he said that living among the Catholic homophobia was a nightmare.

“It must be acknowledged that a large number of Catholic clerics and trainee priests in Europe and the United States are homosexually-inclined,” the Local quoted Berger as telling Der Spiegel  “The worst homophobia in the Catholic Church comes from homophile priests, who are desperately fighting their own sexuality,” he said.

“Obviously, those who follow their urges are repudiated more fiercely when one is so painfully repressing that disposition oneself,” he added.

More proof t6hat those in the closet are the most homophoboic.

DADT Survey Shows Gays In The Military Is No BFD – (Video)

The homophobic DADT repeal survey that cost over 45 Million dollars and has created a huge stall in the process because soldiers get to have a voice in every decision that the Pentagon makes *snort* has come back and the results are leaking out.  The outcome?   American troops actually might deal with openly gay soldiers just fine. Duh.

Most soldiers say they’d have no problem serving and living with comrades they know to be.

• Many troops “strongly objected” to the idea that they would quit the military if DADT was repealed, but a majority did not.
• Many soldiers said if they do have questions about a gay soldier, they will feel comfortable speaking to that person directly, though some did say they would go up the chain of command with a complaint.
• The Marines had the highest number of respondents saying they would have issue with gays — and no wonder. If they’re listening to their chief Gen. James Conway, who has been quite open and loud in saying to those in his command and to America that homosexuals are just disgusting.

Which just goes to prove that soldiers follow what their leaders say.  They say Gay is okay and the soldiers will follow.

The president will receive a final report Dec. 1.  If more stalls and trouble happens after this good outcome of the survey  Then there are no more \excuses that the pentagon and the Obama administration can give.
