America’s first openly gay Democratic presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg has reached his goal for campaign donations, meaning he’s officially secured an invite to the Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) first debate for potential candidates in the 2020 presidential election .
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) requires a minimum of 65,000 individual donors in order for a candidate to be invited to the debate stage happening in June.
A spokesman with the Pete for America Exploratory Committee says, “We are building a community that believes in this bold vision for the future, and there are tens of thousands of people (75,025 to be exact) around the country who invested because they believe a Midwestern, millennial, war veteran, mayoral voice should be part of the conversation.”
Buttigieg the 37-year-old mayor of South Bend, Indiana brimming with Midwestern authenticity, sincerity, and intelligence captured a large portion of CNN’s audience earlier this month in his first nationally televised town hall.
GO MAYOR PETE! – Pete for America!
Thanks to you, we hit the @TheDemocrats 65,000 donor goal in order to be invited to the first debate. But we are going to need to raise a lot more money to compete. pic.twitter.com/SCOAZ20UuG— Pete Buttigieg (@PeteButtigieg) March 16, 2019
The Democratic National Committee not more than 3 weeks after announcing language to the 2012 Democratic Platform supporting same-sex marriage and embracing federal workplace protections for the LGBT Community has tapped Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the Archbishop of New York, and one of the Catholic Church’s leading voices against same-sex marriage and LGBT equality and Women’s Reproductive Rights to deliver the closing prayer at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte next week.
Dolan has a long history of insulting the LGBT community and working to deny them equal protections. The archbishop led the religious opposition to New York’s civil same-sex marriage law, during which he compared extending marriage to gays and lesbians to communist dictatorships, incest and argued that it would be “perilous” and “detrimental for the common good.” “You don’t redefine marriage — a given — just to accommodate people’s lifestyle,” Dolan said in an interview with the National Catholic Register in late June. But yet the DNC finds it fitting for this “christian” to give the closing prayer at the DNC.
The DNC inviting the vehemently anti-LGBT Dolan to deliver the closing prayer is a slap in the face to the LGBT community and a spineless move on the DNC’s part to pander to the anti-gay right and independents who have no intention of voting Democratic at all.
Perhaps one day the DNC will learn that the lack of integrity and strength within its own party is the reason that many do not turn out to vote and cannot stand behind a party that does not have the verisimilitude and balls to stand up for its own convictions and platform
There will be over 500 LGBT delegates at the 2012 Democratic National Convention and unless the DNC rescinds Cardinal Dolan’s invitation and replaces him with a more suitable religious leader I call upon EVERYONE of them and LGBT journalist, bloggers and straight allies to protest during Dolan’s prayer. Stand up and turn your backs, walk out, or shout out. Let Dolan know that he and his anti-gay bigotry is unwelcomed and also let the DNC know that we will not take this slight lightly.
Enough is enough!
The Huffington Post is reporting that our
chickenshit brave Democratic leaders are beginning to waver and push back against adding marriage equality to the party agenda because it would put our “ever evolving” President in a re-election bind.
... sources told The Huffington Post that the DNC has been asking advocates for patience, worried that more sweeping platform language would put the president in an awkward bind.
“The DNC folks — their political shop — have been calling people and really pressuring them,” said Paul Yandura, a political and fundraising strategist at the firm Scott+Yandura who led gay and lesbian outreach on both Bill Clinton and Al Gore’s presidential campaigns. “Look, I’m not going to claim that they’re pressuring them not to be for it, but this ‘let’s wait’ thing is always what happens in politics — let’s wait so they can find a way to slow this down and maybe get a good reason not to do it.”
“But that doesn’t mean that activists and other people have to wait and see,” Yandura added. “I think that we have to keep up the pressure.”
Melanie Roussell, a spokesperson for the DNC, did not directly refute Yandura’s assertion. Instead, she emphasized the party’s commitment to equality and inclusion, with respect to both LGBT Americans and the platform process.
“The President and the Party are committed to crafting a platform that reflects our values and a belief that this is a nation in which everyone deserves a fair shot and hard work is rewarded,” she wrote in an email to The Huffington Post. “The time will come to consider the content of the platform but not a single platform committee member has been chosen and the process has yet to begin.”
Dear Democratic National Leaders:
Could we PLEASE, at long last, overcome the party leadership’s natural cowardice and lack of backbone and demonstrate a little courage and leadership? Republican right-wingers are going to attack Obama no matter what you Democrats put in their platform, so let’s try an exercise in standing by our principles and actually drawing a line in the sand and standing up for whats right. If you do perhaps more Democrats will actually turn out at the Polls to vote for you. Because that has been your major problem.
NOBODY wants to go out of their way to vote for a
We’re about to find out if all the talk about LGBT Equality from Obama and the Democrats was truly meant, or was total bullshit just to get us onboard the Obama Express during his election campaign.
Over the next couple days, we’re going to see how motivated Democrats are to take up pro-gay legislation. Already theres been rtalk by House Democrats that the members don’t want to take any “tough votes” for the rest of the year and after the DISASTER with Health Care reform I am willing to bet that the Democratic caucus would consider DADT and ENDA among the “tough votes”.
The idea that Congress is going to screw us any pro-LGBT legislation is looking a very real prospect. And this is something I predicted waaaaay baaaack after Obama got elected. That they would put us on the back burner until after the 2010 midterms and Obama’s re-election campaign in 2012. But they screwed up SO MUCH with Health Care that and couldn’t control their own party that we are in serious danger of now losing the House this November. If we don’t get ENDA and DADT this year (not to mention DOMA and everything else), then we may not be getting it for many years and years to come.
HRC President Joe Solmonese, and resident Democratic ass-kisser promised that DADT would be repealed this year. He promised that there was a plan, and the White House is following through on the plan. Now we hear that the President isn’t for repeal this year, and that Barney Frank is frustrated and disappointed with the administration on DADT. This is really terrible news. It means the White House has turned its back on its own promises to our community.
The REAL question is. What are WE going to do about it? Certainly we will NOT leave it up to Joe Solmonese and the HRC. When are we going to take to the steets and DEMAND OUR RIGHTS!
Well isn’t this lovely.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) gave Ben Nelson (D-Nebraska) over $500,000 to pay for ads for his re-election. Nelson stands against the LGBT community at every opportunity. Not only that, but he was also a major reason we are in the current health care situation.
We don’t need to be financing Democrats who act like Republicans. And we don’t need to be financing Democrats who act like Republicans. Why in the world would we give money to the DNC so it frees up their funds to give to Blue Dog Democrats? I mean is there not one REAL Democrat in theentire state of Nebraska you could find to back?
LGBT Americans DO NOT GIVE MONEY TO THE DNC!
Only give money DIRECTLY to candidates who are for Full LGBT Equality and are REAL Democrats.
