Cardinal Bernard Law, the former Boston archbishop who resigned in disgrace during the church’s child sex abuse scandal, has died in Rome, where he served as arch-priest of the Papal Liberian Basilica of St. Mary Major after he was forced to resign as archbishop of Boston in 2002
n a news conference, Law apologized to victims of abuse by a priest, John Geoghan, who had been moved from parish to parish, despite Law’s knowledge of his abuse of young boys. Law continually insisted Geoghan’s abuse was in the past even after over 30 former victims came forward.
Geoghan was eventually convicted of indecent assault and battery on a 10-year-old boy
Law never faced criminal sanctions for his role in allowing abusive priests to remain in church parishes. The scandal reverberated through the church, exposing similar allegations worldwide that compromised its moral authority and led to years of multi-million-dollar settlements. After his resignation his second career at the Vatican was a slap in the face to victims of church sex abuse, one that further undermined the church’s legitimacy.
The Vatican issued a press release early Wednesday confirming the death of Cardinal Bernard Law, with one line reading “Cardinal Bernard Law died early this morning after a long illness.”
Abdullah had been in poor health in recent months. Reuters reports that the king had been admitted to a Riyadh hospital in December for medical tests. The royal court announced in January that Abdullah was suffering from pneumonia.
Despite the fact that there has been over 500 public executions in that country over the past 7 years and being found to be gay in Saudi Arabia will land you with public lashings and a jail term – if you’re lucky. President Obama expressed his condolences for the late king, saying, “I always valued King Abdullah’s perspective and appreciated our genuine and warm friendship.” Joe Biden was to lead a presidential delegation to Saudi Arabia in the coming days.
Hopefully the next leader can help Saudi Arabia transition their society into the 17th century smoothly.
Charles W. Colson, the Republican political operative who boasted he would “walk over my own grandmother” to ensure the reelection of President Richard M. Nixon and went on to found a worldwide prison fellowship ministry after his conversion to evangelical Christianity, died April 21 Inova Fairfax Hospital. He was 80. Mr. Colson’s reputation as a “dirty tricks artist” overshadowed his achievements as a darkly brilliant political strategist.
He had helped lay the groundwork for the Nixon landslide of November 1972 by appealing to disgruntled Democrats and blue-collar minority voters. A self-described “hatchet man” for Nixon, Mr. Colson compiled the notorious “enemies list” of politicians, journalists and activists perceived as threats to the White House. And most fatefully, he helped orchestrate illegal activities to discredit former Pentagon official Daniel Ellsberg, who was suspected of leaking a top-secret history of the Vietnam War to the New York Times and The Washington Post.
And that’s just a taste of disgraceful legacy that Colson leaves behind.
Colson — who “found God” while serving a prison sentence as one of the Watergate Seven— became one of the most vocal was a chief religious flag wavers falsely claiming the rights of Christians are being compromised and was also one of primary authors of the 2009 ”Manhattan Declaration: A Call of Christian Conscience,” an anti-gay , fascist, and faux religious contract that demands of signatories — more than 525,000 to date — that they should break the law should they perceive the law not squaring up with the Bible says.
The Declaration attacks same-sex marriage, homosexuality and abortion, laments both society’s decoupling of marriage from childbearing and its growing acceptance of infidelity.
Colson repeatedly attacked same-sex marriage and homosexuality. He wrongly stated “homosexual behavior” is more “dangerous than smoking, it lowers the life expectancy dramatically.” Colson also falsely stated that legalizing same-sex marriage was “sanctioning behavior known to be dangerous.” And, again falsely, stated that gays and lesbians “don’t want marriage; they want their sexual choices affirmed as normal and moral.”
1. Colson said that anti-bullying laws are actually meant recruit children into homosexuality. 2. Chuck Colson stated that if gay people get any more civil rights, it will be time for Christians to revolt against the government. 3. According to Colson says homofascists are repressing the religious freedom of Christians to oppress gay people. 4.Colson advocated that all school children need to be taught that God hates gay marriage. 5. Colson declared that if all Christians dis not sign the Manhattan Declaration, the Nazi party will take over America.
From Nixon and Watergate to the end of his evil life Chuck Colson was a dangerous man. A religious extremist and theocrat that signed onto every gay bashing initiative that crossed his desk.
As the old saying goes I don’t wish death upon anyone but I do wish some people had never been born.
According to his website, Breitbart — the political journalist who broke the Anthony Weiner penis pic story — died “unexpectedly from natural causes” shortly after midnight this morning in L.A.
A statement on Breitbart reads, “We have lost a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a dear friend, a patriot and a happy warrior.”
Andrew is survived by his wife and 4 children.
Breitbart’s father-in-law told reporters Andrew was walking near his Brentwood home around midnight when he collapsed.
The father-in-law says someone saw Andrew collapse and called paramedics … who raced to the scene and tried to revive him. Breitbart was transported to UCLA Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
According to reports, Breitbart suffered from heart problems last year.
Law enforcement sources tell us the LAPD is investigating the death.
The question still remains though is James O’Keefe his protege to be considered a “widow” or an “orphan”?
When I heard about Brietbart’s passing this morning the first word that popped into my mind was: unlamentable
So the best I can do right now is to quote Mark Twain: “I have never wished a man dead. But I have read some obituarires with great satisfaction.”
South Korea’s crazy little “Dear Leader” Kim Jong is dead.
For years Kim Jong remained shrouded behind layers of communist propaganda and secrecy. The state-run media called Kim a brilliant politician while others claimed he was a ruthless and selfish, living in opulence while his poverty-stricken nation suffered one hardship after another. Natural disasters compounded by poor governance caused a famine in the country that aid workers said killed more than two million people over the last decade.
He was called an evil genius and just plain crazy.
Lets’s remember this crazy little bastard the way he should be.
Actor Corey Haim died at the age of 38 early Wednesday morning. The LAPD said Haim was taken to a Burbank hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 3:30 a.m. According to the LAPD, Haim had been staying with his mother in North Hollywood, and the death appears to have been an accidental death. Haim was known as an 80s teen idol and starred in films such as The Lost Boys, Lucas and License to Drive.
Corey Haim collapsed in the bedroom of his mother’s apartment and four prescription bottles were found nearby. Corey had been sick the last couple of days with flu-like symptoms. The medications recovered, however, were not related to his illness. Corey’s mom told authorities he had been battling prescription drug addiction for years.
A sad end to a sad story. Corey Haim truly was a Lost Boy.
