Patrons Attacked In Dallas Gay Bar. Police Seek Suspects [VIDEO]

Two men entered the Liquid Zoo Bar & Grill in Dallas, TX on February 2 and began harassing patrons by yelling homophobic slurs. Bartenders tried to escort the men from the premises but they resisted, and began throwing punches.

Now Dallas police have made a public plea in hopes of finding two unidentified suspects. Law enforcement is treating the incident as a hate crime.

Cameras caught the attack, on tape and police hope a member of the public can aid in identifying the suspects.

“It was kind of nightmarish because you never know what’s going to happen in that situation,” Ronnie Mikyles, one of the bar employees, told CBS News. “My face had gotten split open, and the back of my head was swollen on the right side of my face.”

The bar posted the following statement via Facebook.

“One thing we at Zoo don’t condone is the behavior that took place at the bar tonight. We are a family of customers, friends and staff. We want to apologize to our Zoo Peeps that were subjected to the group that came in and was causing problems. I just met with my Zoo Crew and addressed how this type of situation is to be handled in the future. We managed to provide good video to PD as well as license plates for a handful of the vehicles. We will not tolerate HATE against our bar.”

Gary Welborn, owner of the Liquid Zoo Bar & Grill said this is a first for them. He said his patrons are a tight-knit group of regulars, and he never expected anything like this to happen.

“You would think being 2020 we wouldn’t have that issue, but unfortunately, it’s bred into a lot of people,” Welborn said.

#NeverAgain Movement Hits Back At NRA and Trump With "#What If" PSA - Video

Trump to Address NRA’s Annual Convention, Guns Banned From Convention During Speech

Donald Trump will speak at the National Rifle Association’s annual convention on today in Dallas, Houston, a little more than two months after he lying to stand up to the gun rights organization in the aftermath of the Parkland, Fla., school shooting.

Trump called out lawmakers for being “afraid” of the NRA, saying the group had “less power” over him and even backed raising the minimum age to buy rifles and imposing more expansive background checks — both positions which are strongly opposed by the NRA.

But when the White House actually announced its proposals to improve school safety, the approach was pretty much in line with NRA policy stances.

White House press secretary Sarah “Somkey Eye” Sanders said at a briefing on Tuesday that safety is a priority for the Trump administration.

“But we also support the Second Amendment, and strongly support it, and don’t see there to be a problem with speaking at the National Rifle Association’s meeting,” Sanders said.

Last year, Trump’s visit to the NRA  after the group helped put him in the White House said: “You came through for me and I am going to come through for you,” Trump told thousands of gun rights activists at last year’s convention.
The NRA is facing scrutiny over its finances following allegations that a lifetime member and Russian government official, Alexander Torshin, had funneled money through the NRA to bolster the Trump campaign in 2016.

The NRA said the U.S. Secret Service will coordinate security at this years convention and that weapons” will not in the arena while Trump is present.

“As a result, firearms and firearm accessories, knives or weapons of any kind will be prohibited in the forum prior to and during his attendance,” the NRA said. A detailed list of prohibited items includes ammunition, drones, gun parts, and firearm magazines.

Gay Man Excommunicated From Watermark Mega-Church In Dallas TX Reflects On The Hate One Year Later

Gay Man Excommunicated From Watermark Mega-Church In Dallas TX Reflects On The Hate One Year Later

Last weekend, Jason Thomas posted a candid observation of a painful anniversary to his Facebook page: It was one year, to the day, since Watermark Community Church had sent him a letter revoking his membership in the congregation to which he had belonged for years because he is gay.

Thomas was a faithful member of the nondenominational church, which has more than 10,000 members across three Dallas-area campuses. He tried for years to conform to church requirements that he alter his essential nature, “repent” his sexual orientation, undergo a form of “conversion therapy” that research, as well as mainstream psychologists and counselors, have denounced as harmful and pointless.

“I spent years in your church battling against my homosexuality. I believed with all my heart that God would change me; I prayed for change almost daily,” Thomas wrote in an open letter to Watermark. “But when I wasn’t able to change, you turned your back on me.”

“Being gay and Christian seems to be not a thing to a lot of people but I disagree with that, you can be gay and Christian at the same time,” Thomas says.

But after Thomas came out to the megachurch and said  he wanted to continue being a Watermark member as a gay man, the church sent him a letter.

It called his same sex relationship a “destructive pattern,” cited his “unwillingness to heed biblical counsel” and said that he was “No longer a member of our body at Watermark.” while saying that they “lovingly, but firmly, call you back to repentance.”

That was a year ago.

Thomas, who lives in Carrollton, has since attended two other churches that welcomed him warmly. He said he posted his open letter in the hope that “people will at least know what they are getting into” if they choose to join Watermark.

“I just don’t think that they are aware of the impact this is having on people’s lives,” he said. “I don’t want to go to war with the church, I don’t want to go to battle with them. I don’t want to say negative things about them. I just want them to recognize that they can do a better job at loving people.”

At Least 5 Police Officers Killed, 6 Wounded By Sniper Attack During Dallas Black Lives Matter Protest – Video

Dallas Police Massace Black lives matters

Multiple snipers shot and killed five police officers “ambush-style” during a Black Lives Matter protest in Dallas on Thursday night.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown said early Friday three suspected snipers were in custody and police were still in negotiations with another suspect, who was being uncooperative and at times exchanging gunfire with officers in a parking garage.

Local media reported that the suspect involved in the standoff later died.

“He told negotiators that the end is coming, and he is going to hurt and kill more of us,” Brown said at a press conference earlier, noting the man had also claimed there were bombs around the structure. “We are being very careful in our tactics so that we don’t injure any of our officers in harm’s way.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown said the shooters, some in elevated positions, used sniper rifles to fire at the officers in what appeared to be a coordinated attack.

“(They were) working together with rifles, triangulating at elevated positions in different points in the downtown area where the march ended up going,”

At a press conference from Warsaw, Poland, around 4:19 a.m. central time President Obama called the attack “a vicious, calculated and despicable.”

I believe I speak for every single American when I say we are horrified over these events,” Obama said.

He called on Americans to “profess our profound gratitude tot eh men and women in blue” and to remember the victims, in particular.

“Today, our focus is on the victims and their families, Obama said. “They are heartbroken. The entire city of Dallas is grieving. Police across America, a tight-knit family, feels this loss to their core.”

Via Eater:

If you’ve ever wondered why there wasn’t a male version of the skeezy dining establishment that is Hooters, well, your prayers are about to be answered: Brace for the arrival of Tallywackers, coming soon to the gayborhood. Per a help wanted ad on Craigslist, Tallywackers appears to be a bar and restaurant staffed by half-naked men who may or may not offer suggestive raised eyebrows while serving phallic-shaped foods such as hot dogs. Look for it to open soon at 4218 Lemmon Avenue, the space previously occupied by Lolita’s and the Catalina Room. If Hooters and Twin Peaks are considered breastaurants, does that make Tallywackers a… dickstaurant? Discuss.

Dallas TX: Dallas Mayoral Candidate Arrested For Spray-painting “666” On Gay Landmarks

Legacy

Richard Sheridan who is running for mayor in Dallas, TX has been  charged with vandalizing 2 gay landmark statues the Legacy of Love Monument (above) and the Cathedral of Hope last June.

The monuments,in the heart of Dallas’ gayborhood, and the church — known as the world’s largest LGBT congregation — were among 12 sites in the city there were vandalized with “the number of the beast” 666 spray-painted  in red paint.

Sheridan  is charged in only two of the incidents. A grand jury indicted Sheridan for a state jail felony, punishable by up to two years behind bars. If prosecutors treat the case as an anti-gay hate crime, the charges could be enhanced to a third-degree felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

The Dallas Morning News reports:

In August, police told The Dallas Morning News that Sheridan was the only person who’d been questioned in the case. Sheridan maintained he didn’t do it: “I’m not guilty, I’m not guilty, I’m not guilty,” he told our Tristan Hallman on August 14 in the lobby of Dallas police headquarters. But Sheridan said he knew who did — and that he agreed with the tags. He also said that despite what police were saying, the tags were “not a hate crime [but] an act of love — and a warning.”

Sheridan, who frequently distributes anti-gay leaflets around Dallas City Hall and has been escorted out of council chambers more than once, took to his Facebook page last summer to admit to having been interviewed twice. He insisted he was merely “representing the person who did it.” In an open letter to Dallas police on August 2, Sheridan claimed that the person who actually tagged the locations “recognizes that there are some in the Gay community, the rabid faction, that wants vengence [sic], wants a ‘scalp’, wants to hang him out to dry, wants to send a message across Dallas and the Nation that (if they get their way) this is what will happen to anyone who dares to call out the immorality of the Gay lifestyle, to reference the Bible in saying that the Gay community is violating Gods laws.”
