Is Military Gay and Lesbian Segregation Becoming Part of the DADT Repeal? Is That Why It’s Taking So Long?

Back in  July I wrote a post that The Obama Administration and the Pentagon might  be considering segregating Gay and Lesbians solders if DADT is repealed. (Which they denied.)   A this week with the “leaking” of the first results from the DADT Survey sent to military members I said that it sure sounded like that they might be setting Gay and Lesbian soldiers up limited duties if DADT is passed.

Well it seems I am not the only one who thinks this might happens,  In an editorial from today’s New York Times points out that in the stay appeal the DOJ points to Clifford Stanley, the under secretary of defense for personnel and readiness stating that “things” have to be taken into consideration.  And these “things” sure sound like the possibility of Lesbian and Gay soldiers being “separate but equal”/

Clifford Stanley, the under secretary of defense for personnel and readiness, said in a court filing that ending the antigay policy would require training, and reworking regulations on issues like housing, benefits and standards of conduct. He said the Army had to consider the “rights and obligations of the chaplain corps.” Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said the military had to consider whether barracks should be segregated and whether partners of gay soldiers should have benefits.

Enough is enough.  Israel, Britain, The Netherlands, Spain, Denmark and other nations have managed this without all of the drama.  No judge should grant them a stay especially if they are working on a “separate but equal” discrimination policy since DADT was found unconstitutional on the grounds of discrimination.

Is this the REAL reason why this is taking so long.  They need to set up “separate but equal” policies for Lesbian and Gay soldiers before they repeal?

It’s sure beginning to look that way.

CNN’s Soledad O’Brien Reports On DADT Repeal – Jounalism At It’s Best (Video)

CNN’s Soledad O’Brien did a great piece on DADT (non-repeal compromise) last night on CNN.  She had a great grasp on the subject and talked to SLDN’s Aubrey Sarvis, who reminded gay and lesbian servicemembers that the law hasn’t been repealed yet and NOT TO COME OUT,  an anonymous gay soldier still serving and Mike Almy, an Air Force Major, who was discharged under DADT. Almy’s quote though really says it all:

“I’m pissed off. I really am. I want my job back. I want my career back.”

The DADT (Non) Repeal "Compromise" Clusterf#@k! Now With Even MORE F#@K Thanks To Senator Robert Byrd

This is getting ridiculous I don’t even want to post about DADT anymore.  But I will because this is a Civil Rights issue.  OUR CIVIL RIGHTS.

The DADT (Non) Repeal “Compromise” is absolute BULLSHIT.  Everyone knowa it and no one in any power wants to say so either in political circles or (god forbid) Gay Inc.  And every few hours its gets worse and worse

And whats the latest bullshit to be added to this bullshit (Non) Repeal “Compromise”?

Senator Robert Byrd the last “undecided” vote has said he’ll vote yes on the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (Non) Repeal “Compromise”, but wants language added that would allow for a 60-day review period of the implementation policy by Congress once it’s certified.  The full compromise now looks something like this: 1) Congress passes repeal as an attachment to the defense authorization bill, 2) once the study is completed on December 1, officials will certify that it does not undermine military effectiveness 3) once it’s certified, Congress has 60 days to ‘review’ it before DADT is repealed.”

Byrds proposal stalls this “non repeal”even more.  Actually till well after Novemeber’s elections.  Come December or January of next year, what guarantee is there that a Republican-controlled House will pass a DADT repeal? Republicans rarely, if ever, vote in our favor.  My view is that this new move by the Obama administration is an attempt to buy our votes and then IF tehy win they’ll throw us this crumb. They know that we are angry with them and won’t vote for them in November.  Byrd probably hopes the Republics do win control of Congress and this “crumb” would not be passed because Byrd is a rabid homophobe.

Here are a few facts about 92-yr. old Byrd

“Senator Byrd took a harder line than Nunn. He believed homosexuality was a sin; said he would never let his grandson, whom he adored, join a military that admitted gays; and asserted that one reason the Roman Empire fell was the acceptance of pervasive homosexual conduct in the Roman legions from Julius Caesar on down.” – From President Bill Clinton’s book “My Life” (pg. 484):

Voting for DOMA in 1996, Byrd said:
“The drive for same-sex marriage, is, in effect, an effort to make a sneak attack on society by encoding this aberrant behavior in legal form before society itself has decided it should be legal. Let us defend the oldest institution, the institution of marriage between male and female as set forth in the Holy Bible.”

With 80% of Americans saying that gays and lesbians should be allowed to serve openly in the military the REAL reprel of DADT should not have been a problem, Gay servicemembers are being crushed between a vice of bigots in the Pentagon and bigots in Congress while Barack “Equality is a moral imperative. I will never compromise on my commitment to equal rights for all LGBT Americans.” Obama twiddles his thumbs and whistles “Dixie.” and our “professional” Gay Orgs play political lap dogs who will roll over willingly for any bone thats thrown them.
