Trevor Bannister who played ladies’ man Mr Lucas in the classic BBC sitcom, Are You Being Served set in Grace Brothers department store, died last Thursday after suffering a heart attack.
In a career spanning five decades, he appeared in a host of popular TV shows, including The Avengers, Dixon Of Dock Green, The Saint and Z Cars. Most recently, he had a stint in Last Of The Summer Wine.
He also regularly appeared in the theatre and panto. But his role as Mr Lucas brought him his greatest fame.
Are You Being Served? ran for 10 series from 1972 until 1985, although Bannister left after series seven in 1979. In 2009, he led the tributes to co-star Wendy Richard, who played Miss Brahms, and gave a reading at her funeral. Speaking about the show at the time, he said: “We loved working with each other and had a lot of respect for each other.
