Both the bar and the ATM provider immediately distanced themselves from the offending message. El Ocho de Blanco put a note on its Facebook page saying itturned the ATM off and reached out to the provider, ATM Mobile Services, according to Primera Hora.
The ATM company’s president Jorge Torres said “someone from the outside gained access to the system and programming of the machine.” Torres said his company did not intentionally offend the LGBT community and would upgrade its ATM security to make sure nothing like this would happen in the future.
“Homophobia is unacceptable, wherever it comes from,” Serrano wrote. “This can’t keep happening in Puerto Rico.”
It’s not clear if the bar is gay friendly or not but it’s hate pure and simple. I don’t know if customers that use this ATM service should be more concerned that people are able to send them bigoted hate messages or that their security system is so weak that any entry level hacker can so easily find a way into their operating systems. Suffice to say, until the person responsible is held accountable, maybe it’s best that no one does any banking transactions with them.
With what at first started as a trivial pointless verbal exchange on twitter between rapper Azealia Banks and infamous blogger Perez Hilton escalated into an ugly homophobic rant on twitter. It all started when Perez began to question Banks comments about her feud with another female rap artist Angel Haze. Banks did not handle the interference well and started making suggestive comments about Perez being gay, referring to her an
See at first the comments were elusive and the tone was to vague to discern if Banks was making a comment about his sexuality or promiscuity but the meaning of tweets like these became clear as the conflict deteriorated:
Even worse is when Banks tried to cover for what she said in the most misogynistic way, first by saying that if it’s okay for her to use racial slurs in her song lyrics that we should be okay with her using homophobic slurs (what poor, horrible logic). Then she tries to redefine the ani-gay speech and what it should mean? Yeah it doesn’t make sense:
Finally, after having twitter and her gay fans in an uproar, Banks tries to issue an apology but the damage has been done:
Here’s my thing, I know Perez has done (and most likely will continue to do) horrible, vile things. I am not excusing his past behavior in any way because he hasn’t tried to make amends to the community that he belongs to and that he has knowingly hurt and insulted. But as our parents and loved ones have always taught us is that two wrongs don’t make a right. Her being bisexual does not excuse or give her a free pass to say anything else she wants. And I don’t care that Perez instigated it, that still does not excuse her behavior.
The tone was disgusting in Azealia’a rant and using Perez’s sexuality as a weakness was wrong, misogynistic and seemed like self hated. It had the tone of anything relating to a woman or effeminate gay man is weak and that really pissed me off. What further enraged me was the fallout on twitter and seeing some of her fans, gay men, defending what she said. And some of those gay men that were calling out Azealia’s homophobia were using racial slurs to retaliate against her and the fans that supported her. Some of them even saying ignorant comments like “I’m gay so I can’t be racist” were baffling. I was and still am disgusted by this entire thing. Hate is hate. Using any of these slurs is wrong, no matter what the context of it is. There is no re-appropriation as they will always represent times of oppression and anger.
Some of you may remember embattled singer and American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino and her numerous problems but now comes news of an anti-gay rant using her instagram account. During this so called sermon, Barrino felt for some reason that condemning other people because others have condemned her would have been something Christ-like? I have no clue so here it is for yourself:
I Rise ABOVE IT ALL!!! THE WORLD IS GONE MAD. KIDS, THE GOVERNMENT THE church House… Everybody Trying!!!!!!! Its a lot that going on that the Bible speaks about we should Not be doing. Weed legal in some places, Gay Marriage Legal BUT YET IM JUDGED!!! I’m not doing Nothing for you… My Life!!!!
Now a spokesman has come out in response to this damning statement with this to say:
Comments made by Ms. Barrino through her Intragram account were recently taken far out of context, and the purpose of this release is to set the record straight. Ms. Barrino is not now, nor has she ever been an opponent of the LGBT community. She has supported and performed at numerous events that are sponsored by the LGBT community. Whether it’s through a live performance or placement on social media, Ms. Barrino uses every opportunity to reach out and connect with her fans, all of her fans.
Barrino recently posted her own apology on instagram saying she has always loved the gay community:
Okay, so they claim that the entire incident was out of context and a heat of the moment situation (which doesn’t excuse it) but can they really use this excuse since this sin’t the first time this has happened?
So can Barrino explain this tweet that was later removed? You can’t say that this rant was out of context when there are tweets that exist calling us sinners. Even more problematic that Barrino is condemning us when she had a child of wedlock with a married man so the next time she claims to be a child of God then she should remember her own past isn’t very Christian.
I am writing to formally provide you with a sincere apology on behalf of the entire North Vancouver School District,” says a letter sent to Robin Tomlin on Oct. 4 and signed by John Lewis, the district’s superintendent of schools.
Tomlin has been haunted for years after his high school yearbook committee printed the word “fag” next to his picture in the 1970 Argyle Secondary School yearbook.
Tomlin isn’t gay, but he says the slur stuck and he was badly bullied in school. He says he was even too afraid to go to his school prom for fear of being beaten up and eventually moved out of the area to start a new life.
New York Knicks basketball player Amar’e Stoudemire hurled an anti-gay slur at a fan on Twitter yesterday after the fan tweeted about chided Stoudemire for his performance last season and told Stoudemire to step up his game so that the Knicks can do better this season.
Not long after Twitter user @BFerrelli received the following tweet from Stoudemire in reply:
“Fuck you. I don’t have to do any thing faggot,”
Later Stoudemire apologized to @BFerrelli tweeting: “I apologize for what I said earlier.I just got off the plane and had time to think about it. Sorry bro!! No Excuses. Won’t happen again.”
Amar’e Stoudemire has yet to publicly acknowledge the interaction.
