Today: Jim Jordan and the GOP Hold Kangaroo Court in NYC On DA Alvin Bragg

Fun Fact: Jim Jordan’s home state of Ohio’s homicide rate is 49% higher than New York City’s

Via The AP:

Republicans upset with Donald Trump’s indictment are escalating their war on the prosecutor who charged him, trying to embarrass him on his home turf partly by falsely portraying New York City as a place overrun by crime.
The House Judiciary Committee, led by U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, an Ohio Republican, is holding a field hearing Monday near the offices of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
The committee’s Republican majority is billing it as an examination of the Democrat’s “pro-crime, anti-victim” policies. One committee member, U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs, an Arizona Republican, tweeted that Bragg has “turned NYC into a wasteland,” and that “lawlessness is completely out of control.”

Fun Fact: Jim Jordan’s home state of Ohio’s homicide rate is 49% higher than New York City’s overall rate of 5.8 homicide deaths per 100,000 residents, The News’ study found. Ohio’s homicide rate is also 87% higher than New York’s statewide rate of 4.6 homicides per 100,000

How much is this traveling circus of clowns costing the taxpayers? Nobody is sure, But surely it would cost less to reopen the Ohio State Wresting Team’s allegations that Jim Jordan knew about the sexual molestation happening there during his time as coach and did nothing.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg on Tuesday sued GOP Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio in an extraordinary step intended to keep congressional Republicans from interfering in the office’s criminal case against former President Donald J. Trump.

Lawyers for Mr. Bragg are seeking to bar Mr. Jordan and his congressional allies from enforcing a subpoena sent to Mark F. Pomerantz,  who was NY’s former district attorney’ who investigated Trump who decided not to seek an indictment of Trump at that time.

Last month, Mr. Jordan, in his role as the House Judiciary Committee chairman, sent a letter with two Republican colleagues that demanded the district attorney’s office provide communications, documents and testimony about Mr. Bragg’s investigation of Mr. Trump.

Mr. Bragg’s office has accused House Republicans of illegally meddling in a criminal investigation and prosecution without a legitimate purpose. Republicans have fired back that they have oversight powers in relation to Mr. Bragg’s unprecedented step of indicting a former president — one who is also a current candidate for political office.

Mr. Jordan’s committee announced on Monday that it plans to hold a “field hearing” in New York City on April 17th.

A a spokesperson for the district attorney’s office characterized the hearing as a “political stunt”
