Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has been an  outspoken advocate for LGBT rights for several years now, including participating in the It Gets Better Campaign and joining gay-straight alliances. Radcliffe has always stated how we shouldn’t be treated any differently and feels we are much more complex actual human beings than the stereotypes that we are portrayed as in the media. He’s taking it a bit further by taking on an upcoming film that actually shows us in that spectrum, Here’s more:

In “Kill your Darlings,” slated for release later this year, Daniel Radcliffe plays Allen Ginsberg, who befriends writers William Burroughs and Jack Kerouac while in college. The “Harry Potter” veteran, 23, didn’t shy away from exploring his character’s bisexual side in the movie, which is based on a true story of a murder that entangles the three writers.

On next week’s episode of “The Graham Norton Show,” Radcliffe reveals how director John Krokidas gave him “step-by-step instructions,” including kissing critiques, before the controversial gay sex scenes were shot.

“I was doing a gay sex scene and the director was giving step-by-step instructions,” Radcliffe toward Norton, as quoted by Pink News. “And the favorite note I have ever had was when we were kissing and the director shouted, ‘Not like that. Crazy sex kissing!’”

“The Graham Norton Show” airs stateside on BBC America Thursdays at 10.

I’m sure that Radcliffe will do the role some justice. Can’t wait to see it.

But now its coming to light that the Tea Party wasn’t being “targeted” and the IRS was just doing its job.

Bloomberg is now reporting that Democratic-leaning groups faced similar inquiries from the IRS.

The Internal Revenue Service, under pressure after admitting it targeted anti-tax Tea Party groups for scrutiny in recent years, also had its eye on at least three Democratic-leaning organizations seeking nonprofit status.

One of those groups, Emerge America, saw its tax-exempt status denied, forcing it to disclose its donors and pay some taxes. None of the Republican groups have said their applications were rejected.

Progress Texas, another of the organizations, faced the same lines of questioning as the Tea Party groups from the same IRS office that issued letters to the Republican-friendly applicants. A third group, Clean Elections Texas, which supports public funding of campaigns, also received IRS inquiries.

The false sense of outrage from the right obscures the simple fact many of the applicants really aren’t “social welfare organizations” under Section 501(c)(4) and are more like political organizations that are required to disclose their donors.  Nonetheless, none of the Tea Party applicants were denied c4 status but a Democratic group was.   Plus, most of the applicants were from Tea Party-affiliated organizations; thus, greater numbers of them were given scrutiny.

These scandals this these bogus reports of targets say more about the sad state of the GOP, the death rattle of the Tea Party and the unprofessionalism of the media than they do about anything else.

Ben Affleck  (looking beary beefy) and  the cast of Saturday Night Live ruthlessly and hysterically mocked  the “ex-gay movement” last night in the skit “New Beginnings”

Affleck stars as summer camp counselor Marvin, who is trying to ‘cure’ the kids from being gay at  “New Beginnings” a gay reform camp in Flagstaff, Arizona, who says things like “Hetero is better, yo.”

Among the camp attendees are the delightfully flamboyant Moynihan, Thompson, Tim Robinson, and Aidy Bryant.

Best line of the skit had to be Affleck’s Marvin talking about movie night showing of the ‘The Outsiders’

“Look at Ralph Macchio’s pillow lips.  This is going to be a disaster”

This Wednesday May 22nd, is Harvey Milk Day in California; a day which is intended to honor and celebrate the most important gay rights activist in history. So of course one anti-gay organization, SaveCalifornia.com, is once again trying to tarnish the memory of Harvey Milk and tarnish the day using propaganda lie filled radio ads airing in Sacramento and Los Angeles to urge parents to keep their kids home from school that day as not to learn about Harvey’s civil rights achievements for the LGBT community.

Randy Thomasson, the president of the group and an anti-gay activists who’s so extreme that most on his own side are embarrassed to be seen with him explains his reasoning behind the illogical boycott:

 ”This is harmful to children…This is not academic, it’s brainwashing. Children belong to the parents, not to the state, and to force a sexual agenda and a political agenda upon children, that’s highly inappropriate.”

Let me tell you what is highly inappropriate it’s the all of the information as well as a video posted on the group’s website (whose link I will not post as to not push traffic their way but you can GOOGLE Save California if you wish) which is full of nothing but hateful lies and anti-gay propaganda. Watch the CBS13 news segment about the groups ( which they describe as a “conservative group”) hateful and intollerant anti-gay campaign against Harvey.

Again we see another example of how far we need to go in order to stop homophobia and discrimination. In what some could call a rising trend another hothead from the wrestling/boxing world has said something homophobic and is rightly being reprimanded. Here’s more:

The mixed martial arts fighting leaguesuspended Nate Diaz after he called another fighter “the biggest fag in the world” on Twitter Thursday, according to MMAFighting.com.

The 28-year-old Diaz, a 155-pounder with a 16-9 record, posted the message after fellow fighter Pat Healy lost his bonus money from a recent victory because he tested positive for marijuana. The money was given to Bryan Caraway, whom Diaz later targeted on Twitter.

“We are very disappointed by Nate Diaz’s comments, which are in no way reflective of our organization,” the UFC wrote in a widely circulated statement. “Nate is currently suspended pending internal investigation and we will provide further comment once the matter has been decided.”

USA Today noted that this year the UFC formally established rules prohibiting discriminatory comments.

Last month, UFC suspended heavyweight Matt Mitrione for calling transgender fighter Fallon Fox a “disgusting freak.” Several publications have pointed out, however, that Mitrione was signed for a fight less than three weeks later.

Diaz’s tweet, which appears to have been deleted, read, “I feel bad for pat Healy they took a innocent mans money and I think the guy who took the money is the biggest fag in the world.”

So Diaz is upset that another opponent was able to take the winnings of that fight because he felt like it was some cop out  Maybe the better thing would be to, I don’t know, address the person that smoked pot knowing that he had a match coming up and that they regularly test to make sure their fighters are clean?

I mean that is logic so maybe that would suggest maybe you should be upset with the guy that couldn’t follow the rules instead of the guy that was able to follow UFC guidelines? Yeah, maybe logic is not his best strong suit  I will say that it is a good sign that the UFC is doing more to have anti-gay slurs immediately addressed. But is it for show and do they just get a slap on the wrist and told to lay low until the controversy muffles a bit? Mitrione still had a fight just weeks later so how are we to know that this isn’t just a big PR stunt?

I know it seems like I’m being over the top but if we keep seeing these guys display so much homophobic and misogynistic behaviors while their players continually do it then why should we the consumers by into this mode of entertainment? I’m not asking about this in just the UFC but all sports. Make it clear to the consumers that homophobia is not something your business, sports team, clothing store, whatever does not tolerate this behavior and that they cannot participate until they show they understand why saying things like this are so hurtful ad problematic.

The original Blue Power Ranger David Yost has refused to appear in a reunion show episode of the 90′s children and stoners hit the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers this year titled “Power Rangers Megaforce,” because of years of anti-gay harassment and abuse by the producers of the show.

I walked off set one day during the middle of lunch …. I just had made a decision,” Yost told the fan site No Pink Spandex in 2010 of his exit from the series. “The reason I walked off was is because I was called f***** one too many times … from creators, producers, writers, directors … I know that my co-stars were called in a couple of times to different producers’ offices and questioned about my sexuality, which is kind of humiliating experience to hear that … I was worried that I might take my own life … I needed to leave when I left.”

Calls to Saban Entertainment — which produced Power Rangers — have not been  returned.

Over the past month NYC has had a dramatic rise in anti-gay hate crimes with last night being the most horrific one yet to date.

An unidentified 32-year-old gay man from Brooklyn was shot in the head at about midnight at West 8th Street and Sixth Avenue in Greenwich Village after being chased out of a restaurant bt his attacker who was shouting homophobic slurs before he fired.

The gunman ran five blocks before cops cornered him at West Third Street and MacDougal Street, according to police radio transmissions where he was arrested and confessed to the shooting.

The victim was taken to Beth Israel Hospital where he passed away shortly after arrival.

City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn said she was horrified by the attack.

“There was a time in New York City  when hate crimes were a common occurrence. There was a time in New York City  when two people of the same gender could not walk down the street arm-in-arm  without fear of violence and harassment. We refuse to go back to that time.”

Just 48 hours earlier hundreds of LGBT New Yorkers gathered outside Madison Square Garden  in protest of the ongoing spree of violent anti-gay hate crimes.

Law enforcement sources say the victim, who lived in Brooklyn, was walking with a friend along Sixth Avenue at about midnight when a group that included the suspect, made anti-gay remarks. A short time later, the suspect and the victim crossed paths again. Then, the suspect allegedly pulled out a .38 caliber revolver and shot the victim once in the head. The gunman ran five blocks before cops captured him at West Third Street and MacDougal Street, on the edge of the NYU campus. The busy and well-traveled intersection of 8th Street, Sixth Avenue and Greenwich Avenue is just a few blocks from Washington Square Park. The suspect had a fake ID on him when he was taken into custody.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said the shooting took place shortly after midnight at West 4th Street and Barrow Street and it is classified as a hate crime. Kelly said the suspected gunman was caught urinating on the outside wall of a West Village bar, and then he walked into the bar and threatened the bartender with a silver pistol. The suspect then left the bar with two other men, and the trio confronted the victim and a male companion walking down the street. The alleged shooter called the victim and companion anti-gay slurs and asked if they were “gay wrestlers,” according to Kelly. After the victim was shot once, the suspect fled to MacDougal Street and West 3rd Street, where Kelly said the alleged gunman dropped his weapon and was caught by police.
