#PRIDE History: June 11, 1988 – Hundreds of LGBT Protestors Descend on Klan Group in Portland, Maine. Runs Them Out Of Town!

This is something we should be proud and grateful to the GLBT activists of the past for showing the world. We won’t take it anymore!

Can we please get to that point again?

Via The University of Southern Maine:

About 300 angry (LGBT) protestors confronted and blocked 5 Klansmen as they tried to march up Maine Mall Road in South Portland. Protesters snatched up signs, Klan hoods, and a Confederate flag. The march was set to be the second KKK gathering in Maine in 60 years. Not much documentation exists other than the photos on this page.

  1. These days we’d be up against and army of Proud? Boys or other militia groups armed with AK-47s

What do you think?
