Women’s March Youth EMPOWER is calling for students, teachers, school administrators, parents and allies to take part in a #NationalSchoolWalkout for 17 minutes at 10am across every time zone on March 14, 2018 to protest Congress’ inaction to do more than tweet thoughts and prayers in response to the gun violence plaguing our schools and neighborhoods. We need action. Students and allies are organizing the national school walkout to demand Congress pass legislation to keep us safe from gun violence at our schools, on our streets and in our homes and places of worship.

Students and staff have the right to teach and learn in an environment free from the worry of being gunned down in their classrooms or on their way home from school. Parents have the right to send their kids to school in the mornings and see them home alive at the end of the day.

We are not safe at school. We are not safe in our cities and towns. Congress must take meaningful action to keep us safe and pass federal gun reform legislation that address the public health crisis of gun violence. We want Congress to pay attention and take note: many of us will vote this November and many others will join in 2020. Join us in saying #ENOUGH!

We at Back2Stonewall.com think that since this problem affects everyone, that EVERYONE, students and adults leave their schools, places of work, and homes for 17 minutes in a show of solidarity and power at 10am on March 14, 2018 and show Congress and the world that we will no longer stand for the senseless slaughter of innocents because of the Republican party and the NRA.

  1. What meaningful thing will this accomplish? Is there a goal to this protest? What exactly, I mean in detail do you want Congress to do? Let me see what if we collect every gun in the country and melt them down? Ya that will happen! What if we erect 20 foot walls around every school employ an armed security staff to patrol and man the electric gate. That will def happen at a cost far greater than the wall between the US and Mexico. So I ask again. What is the point?
What further freedoms do we relinquish for this implied safety and security? Before you disrupt our schools and country for 17 minutes.

  2. Solidarity. Classes similar to driver’s ed for gun owners and background checks. People affected by mental illness get a waiting period of a year or until they are well.

    1. Really?

Joe Imbimbo I was in Danny’s on Christopher Street in the winter of 1976 when the bar was raided. The cops came in with their guns drawn. They shut the bar down. The bartender made a phone call. Within minutes a black limo pulls up. A mafia looking kind of guy gets out. ( I can say that my last name ends in vowel) The mafia guy has a discussion with the cops. The cops leave. Mafia guy buys drinks for the house. I peed in my pants and went home

Mark Nelson There were a lot in the early 90’s. I can a test to that.

Christopher Leonard They often raided Edelweiss & Sally’s Hideaway.

What do you think?
