    There is no evidence that Albert was either gay or a cross dresser. Given the options for young women in the workforce, more than 120 women dressed as men and fought on both sides. Adventure, money, to be with their husbands…. All reasons. Remember, women could not own property at that time. Getting a soldiers salary and pension (and the right to vote) was a stable benefit that few would want to give up. Please see “They Fought Like Demons.” I was a contributing researcher.
