Today in our “Some People Just Need The Shit Kicked Out of Them” section. We report on a homophobic eBay seller who placed up for auction a photo album filled with photographs of a group of gay friends, and to smear their memory by claiming their “lifestyle choices,” led to their deaths.
On Monday, “Mattspickens” posted his auction for “VINTAGE 1970’s PHOTO ALBUM GAY QUEER HOMOSEXUAL MEN BOY.”
Bunch of gay people. I picked these up from one of these people in the pictures estate sale. He died from his lifestyle choices. Color photo’s partying, swimming, quite a few pictures.
Thanks for bidding and please ask questions as needed
Not much is known about the album except that the piece of shit seller indicates the man who owned it died in northwest Arkansas.
Many Ebay members have criticized “Matt” for his comments and the choice to sell someone’s personal memories. In response, he posted an article from the anti-LGBT propaganda article from extreme right website Wing-Nut WorldNetDaily that quotes the Family Research Council
“Matt,” who has a 99.8% positive feedback rating, insists “there is no bigotry at all.”
“A smoker chooses to smoke knowing the possible consequences and so does anyone else that makes lifestyle choices. It’s a reality of life,” he writes.
“We all make choices. It’s nothing personal, just a fact, a reality of life… I’m wondering why so many are having such a tizzy. I’m not. I can only wonder that some are not wanting to be responsible for their choices.”
Though reported and flagged many times eBay has not removed the listing.
*UPDATE 9/21: To all those who helped contact eBay reprehensible seller and listing. Thnak you. They have finally removed it from the site.
Q: | Your item discription is very offensive and full of discrimination! If you hope to sell this item, you should rewrite the discription without your personal views. I have reported you to Ebay for hate speech. | Sep-20-16 |

Q: | Of course you’re a homophobe. Your buttons are pushed and you just don’t want to admit it. It must be SAD of you to be miserable. Seek solace in God, if you will. | Sep-20-16 |

Q: | If you wanted to sell it–why did you post your own “personal bigotry”?E-bay has been notified–! | Sep-19-16 |
A: | There is no bigotry at all. A smoker chooses to smoke knowing the possible consequences and so does anyone else that makes lifestyle choices. It’s a reality of life. We all make choices. It’s nothing personal, just a fact, a reality of life, life gravity. I’m wondering why so many are having such a tizzy. I’m not. I can only wonder that some are not wanting to be responsible for their choices.
Q: | I’ve reported your item description to eBay as offensive (hate speech). I’d point out, regardless of eBay’s determination in the matter, that your own bigotry is a ‘lifestyle choice’…a poisonous and damaging one. | Sep-19-16 |
A: | Take a look in the mirror. Getting defensive are we?
Q: | So, why is it that you picked up this album? Are you attracted to “gay queer homosexual men boys”? So why are you selling it? Are you a hateful homophobe? It certainly sounds like it. | Sep-19-16 |
A: | Trying to push buttons? Not working…. sorry find someone else.
Q: | Can you tell me where the estate sale was? I mean, where this man was from? | Sep-19-16 |
A: | Passed away in NW Arkansas.
Q: | when you say “he died of his lifestyle choices”……..that’s offensive and judgemental, and will be perceived that way by the market you hope to reach | Sep-19-16 |
A: | It’s not offensive…. it’s reality. |
THE BEST RESPONSE IS TO BUY THIS ALBUM TO GIVE IT THE RESPECT IS DESERVES. I HAVE BEEN AN EBAY SELLER FOR YEARS. EBAY WILL MOST LIKELY DO NOTHING SINCE HE HAS NOT BROKEN ANY RULES. EBAY DOESN’T CARE ABOUT GOOD TASTE.
It’s so gratifying to see a protest I started get some legs, now on its second website. The dealer’s response to my last email was: “I’m documenting the attacks against me publicly.”
E-Bay has removed the post. Also, as was suggested; someone should have have bought it just to donate to a queer archive.
And as scientific, factual studies have shown; it is the homophobic buyer here who is probably deeply repressed & conflicted. I do wonder how he explained to his heteronormative partner why he bought the album?
