The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has unanimously approved a resolution to end the organization’s ban on gay adults working as leaders.
But there is a catch.
The resolution, which passed unanimously does allow scout troops to set their own policy on the issue which mean they can select adult leaders without regard to sexual orientation.
It will, however, also allow units with religious ties to “continue to choose adult leaders whose beliefs are consistent with their own”.
Many large sponsor of Scout Troops – include the Roman Catholic Church and the Southern Baptist Convention are vehemently anti-gay and will obviously use the exemption to continue discriminating against gay men.
The group’s national executive board will meet to ratify the resolution on July 27th..
In America, a person’s choice of godstyle is not my government.
Might have to ban churches as sponsors for Scouts who practice open discrimination. That sort of religion isn’t fit to be in a support role in Scouting anyway!
