Dan Savage took Rick Perry to task over on Twitter about how Perry suggested someone who is gay can “decide not to do that” in the same way that alcoholics can choose not to drink at an event at the InterContinental Hotel in San Francisco last week.
Said Perry:
“Whether or not you feel compelled to follow a particular lifestyle or not, you have the ability to decide not to do that,” Perry suggested. “I may have the genetic coding that I’m inclined to be an alcoholic, but I have the desire not to do that, and I look at the homosexual issue the same way.”
The comment, which according to the San Francisco Chronicle “drew a murmur of disbelief,” reflects the platform’s condemnation of homosexuality, that it “must not be presented as an acceptable alternative lifestyle.”
Well LGBT columnist, activist, and sex expert Dan Savage was having none of it and TWEET-CHECKED the hell out of Perry posting the tweets below.
I LOVES ME SOME SAN SAVAGE!
And I’m surprised Perry is so wrong about alcoholics and being gay since he is *allegedly” both.
WHAT A DICK…
Well, at least Savage seems to finally be remembering that LGBTs need more from our govt than just marriage and military service. Of course, would be nice if it weren’t within the context of a joke.
