San Antonio Councilwoman Elisa Chan Defends Her Anti-Gay Hate Speech – Audio

Elisa Chan bigot

San Antonio Councilwoman Elisa Chan who was secretly taped by her aide James Stevens, making hateful and disparaging remarks against LGBT individuals in Chan’s city hall office during a discuss with her staff the city’s upcoming nondiscrimination ordinance vote.

Chan is defending her bigotry by hiding behind the First Amendment:

“The comments from the staff meeting on May 21st were and are my personal opinions and thoughts as guaranteed to me by the 1st amendment to the U.S. Constitution. It is unfortunate that a former member of my D9 Council team betrayed the trust of my staff members and me. I will fight, I will always fight for our freedom of speech, especially in a private setting.” – Councilwoman Elisa Chan

In the recording, the Chan discusses with her staff  how the legalization of same-sex marriage could lead to the legalization of incest or bestiality, Chan can be heard calling homosexuality and other “non-traditional”preferences “disgusting to even think about.” She also says being gay is a “behavioral preference” and that same-sex couples should be “banned” from adoption.

“I don’t think homosexual people should do adoption,” she says on the audio. “They should be banned by adoption. You’re gonna confuse those kids. They should be banned. If you wanted to choose that lifestyle, we don’t want to discriminate you, but it shouldn’t affect the young people. How terrible that we actually allow them to adopt?”

San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro (D-Texas) has spoken out against Chan’s remarks.

“Councilwoman Chan’s remarks were hurtful and ignorant, “[No one should] believe for one second that they represent the views of San Antonians. Ours is a city that welcomes everyone and appreciates diversity.”
