Reykjavik, Iceland Wants to Cut All Ties With Moscow Over It’s Draconian Stance on Gay Rights

Jon Gnarr gay

Reykjavik Iceland’s Mayor Jon Gnarr wants to end that all ties with Moscow’s which is it’s “sister city” over the recent passage of Russia’s anti-human rights laws against it’s LGBT citizens.

The Reykjavik Grapevine reports:

The proposal was put forth during a City Council meeting yesterday.  Should the proposal pass it would effectively terminate all political and cultural relations between Reykjavík and Moscow.“In light of the developments that have taken place in recent years in matters of gay, bisexual, and transgender people in Russia, the Human Rights Office and the Mayor’s Office have entrusted the deputy mayor to propose amendments to the existing agreement between the two cities or terminate it all together following consultation with the Foreign Ministry,” read the minutes from the City Council meeting. In 2007 Reykjavík and Moscow became sister cities, an agreement that would see the municipalities exchanging information, and cooperate on policies regarding youth and family.

Við elskum Jón Gnarr!!!

Brilliant! And a good reminder that everyone should visit Iceland – one of the most amazing, LGBT friendly and beautiful countries on the planet.

This is where your tourism dollars should go.

  1. A step that can only be applauded!
Every city with ties to a city in Russia should re-consider its ties with that Russian city, unless the leaders of that Russian city should be opposing the Russian laws against homosexuality and homosexual people!

And I would go even further, every self-respecting country should end its ties with Russia, not only cities with sister-cities, but embassies should be limiting their dealings with Russia, Russian diplomats should not be invited to activities in the countries they are accredited to, and meetings with representatives from Russia should be met in the most limited way and manner, no flag-showing, no photo-sessions after meetings, and Russian officials should be banned from any non-basic activities!

South Africa had its Apartheid against colored people, Russia has its Apartheid against homosexual people, and should be treated equally as South Africa was treated….. boycott!

I will write to the mayor of Amsterdam, asking him to rip the ties with Saint Petersburg in Russia, and also refuse invitations to the dependance of the Saint Petersburg museum in Amsterdam!
I also will ask the Dutch Pm to limit the activities of the Dutch Embassy in Moscow in relation to and with the Russian authorities!

I call upon every decent person to call upon his or her own government to demand an end of official contacts with Russian authorities, as only that way we can make the Russians feel, and see reason!

What do you think?
