upfront

The European Gay and Lesbian Sport Federation (EGLSF) is targeting young sports fans in the 11 to 16 age range, with a new game-based educational app to tackle homophobia and transphobia in sport called  ‘UpFront”.  The app designed with an emphasis on fun and skills and has been developed for mobile devices by the EGLSF.

Andrej Pisl, EGLSF development officer explains: ‘Education has a huge part to play in tackling discrimination, hate speech and violence in sport. We wanted to create an education tool that young people want to play first and foremost, that helps them understand that football should be for everyone.’

The EGLSF’s development of the UpFront app is one of the outcomes of the Pride In Sport project that has been funded by the European Union.

Pride In Sport is a collective project which incorporated a number of activities across Europe with the aim to tackle prejudice and discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in sport.

  1. Perfect that this APP has been created! Now lets hope it will contribute to the awareness of the group it is intended for!

BUT…. (and yes, there’s a but….(one t))… would it not be GREAT to make it mandatory for all sports-people?
And not only the age-group mentioned in the article, but ALL sports-people, including (and especially!) the adult sports-people…. we then can at least be preventing comments and speeches by trainers, players, boxers, kickboxers etc etc. (lately there are some of those who as they show in the media lack all knowledge and awareness of diversity……).

So, what I propose is, to make the APP available to young people, and MANDATORY to all adult (already arrived) sports-people………. so they can never say they didn’t know…….

    Just an opinion…..
