NOM Plans D.C. Anti-Gay Marriage March & Rally On Day Of Supreme Court Prop 8 Arguments
Well it was inevitable I suppose.
The anti-gay National Organization for Marriage has announced that it will be holding a anti-gay marriage march and rally on March 26th is the day that the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments on Proposition 8. DOMA will be heard the next day.
When the Supreme Court convenes to hear oral arguments in what could be the Roe v. Wade of marriage, we’ll be there — and we hope you’ll be there with us! We are working hard to finalize all of the plans for this exciting event, and will let you know very soon all the details of the schedule. Again, we’re honored by your support and hope that you can show up in person to stand with us on March 26th for what we pray will be an unprecedented outpouring of support for society’s most fundamental and sacred institution: marriage between a man and a woman. Together, we’ll stand before the Supreme Court and make sure our voices are heard that we will not allow the dismantling of marriage by Judicial fiat to happen on our watch! Thank you for your willingness to stand with us. —- Gratefully, Brian S Brown.
It’s quite telling the way NOM uses the Roe v. Wade reference. They cite it as if the Prop 8 ruling is a potential disaster — since someone who sees Roe as a positive development wouldn’t get the thrust of their message so they get more support from the right and this is a dangerous thing, especially with the virtual stalemate when it comes to SCOTUS which we can not always trust to follow the letter of the law.
Remember when NOM held its anti-gay marriage rally in New York City they bused in tens of thousands of attendees from the tri-state area and you can be sure that Tony Perkin’s Family research Center, the American Family Association and The Liberty Counsel will be crawling out of the woodwork soon to help and join in with NOM
Public appearance and pressure has always made a difference. WE NEED to have our own rally and march that day countering them.
So now the REAL QUESTION is will the Human Rights Campaign, Freedom to Marry, and other LGBT Organizations step-up to the plate and plan our own March and Rally for that fateful day?
So far nothing is planned but they better start. This battle is theirs to lose for all of us.
