Soap Opera Days Of Our Lives Shows Gay Couple Consummating Their Relationship For The First Time

In this is progress news, another same sex couple will be getting intimate on a daytime soap opera. During NBC’s Days Of Our Lives will show characters Will and Sonny finally consummating their relationship after months of ups and downs, challenges and hardships during November Sweeps.  Even though male same sex couples have depicted sex together like Luke and Noah from As The World Turns and One Life To Live supercouple Kish, this is probably the most fully developed and given this much attention to authenticity.

Actor Freddie Smith who portrays Sonny feels this has been a long time coming for the budding relationship between these two characters:

The Will and Sonny fans have waited a long time for this but the delay has been a good thing, It’s allowed the audience to get to know our characters and to get to a place where they are really rooting for them to get together. I don’t expect anyone will think the sex scene is controversial. Hopefully, we’re past that. This isn’t a story about two gay guys. It’s about two human beings who truly love each other.”

Daytime Emmy winner Chandler Massey, who portrays Will echoes Smith’s sentiment that it is time to see the relationship flourish:

refreshing to have a couple in soaps who haven’t been thrown together too quickly. We took our time before getting to the sex and the characters and the show are better for it. But I will also say that it’s about time!”

Okay now keep in mind that this is a daytime television show, so it won’t be something you’ve seen on say, Queer As Folk or Noah’s Ark, but it is pretty racy.  Also even though this isn’t the first same sex male couple to simulate sex on a scripted daytime program, from the depiction of the small clip it is more than what you’d expect to see. The episode airs November 14th.
