RARE Video Footage Of New York City’s 1973 Gay Pride Parade

Not much is known about this video except that its from the THIRD Gay Pride Parade in 1973 in New York City.No marching bands, Go-Go boys on floats or Dykes on Bikes.

Just passionate LGBT’s with the dream and marching for the FULL Equality which we are still fighting for almost 40 years later.

NOW THIS IS TRUE MEANING OF LGBT PRIDE!

  1. This is from a great film A Very Natural Thing released in 1974. The march footage is authentic and was filmed documentary-style to capture the spirit of the 70s gay rights movement and to bookend the story of the protagonist.

    Pride has definitely changed and been skewed a great deal by the commercial, co-opting nature of capitalism and mainstreaming of some elements of gay culture.

    It is great to see the footage, and I hope that it spurns activists to continue this long fight!
