Yesterday in Clarion, Iowa Michele Bachmann was asked to autograph a”gay-friendly Iowan” sign and then questioned if she knew that per The Kinsey Report that 10% of the population is estimated to be gay.
Marcia Marcus Bachmann who we all know is a little “light in his loafers” to begin with and performs dangerous and fraudulkant “reparative therapy” by trying to help gay individuals become straight, then chimed in. by saying “Your facts are wrong,”
“That’s not valid?” the autograph seeker asked.
“No it isn’t,” Michele Bachmann said. Her husband added, “No, it’s not at all. It’s been a myth for many years.”
What the Bachmanns are responding to are is a more recent report after Kinsey published by a gay man Gary J. Gates of The Williams Institute, part of the UCLA School of Law who states that Kinsey’s 10% number is wrong and that by his research only about 3.5% of the US adult population is estimated to be gay, lesbian, or bisexual.
The problem with Gates research and finding is the dramatic differences used between his statistic gathers and Kinsey’s so in the end it cannot and does not invalidate kinsey’s findings as it was not done in the same way in a controlled environment as Kinsey’s findings were. And even Gates himself admitted difficulties with maintaining accuracy, saying that “survey methods can affect the willingness of respondents to report stigmatizing identities and behaviors.” But yet he and The Williams Institute still choose to publish the data anyway.
