“Gay? Fine By Me.” Tee Shirt Fine With Alabama School After Threat Of Lawsuit

Schools has just started opening around the country and already some bigoted school administrators in the South have crawle out from under their summer vacation rocks.

Case in point the Hoover High School Administrators ans Principal Don Hulin in Alabama who barred high school student Sara Couvillon from wearing a tee shirt that read “Gay?  Fine by me.” tee shirt on campus.  That is until the Southern Law Poverty Center threatened to sue thier bigoted asses to which Hoover High’s Principal Don Hulin “rethought” the school’s position.

The Birmingham News reports:

“Our dress code at Hoover High School is designed to facilitate the learning environment that is so important to our school.

The T-shirt at issue has not caused a substantial disruption and the student will be allowed to wear it,” the statement said. “Our focus has been and will be on the learning environment at Hoover High School.”

Hoover schools spokesman Jason Gaston said school officials declined to comment further on the decision

Sara Couvillon, the student at the center of the tee shirt censorship, released a statement through the SPLC:

“I’m very relieved and I feel like this is a major victory for the LGBT community in Alabama. This was not just about me – it was about encouraging people to be brave in standing up for themselves and standing up for their rights.”

Smart. strong, and brave kid. There just MIGHT be some hope for the South after all in the future after a few more generations of inbreed bigots die out.
