Yesterday on Twitter Andrew “Guy With Other Guys Penis Pics On IPhone” Breitbart outed himself as a proud anti-gay GOP homophobe when he attacked Dan Savage on Twitter yesterday for a comment that Savage made under his breath that the microphones picked up on Bill Maher’s HBO program “Real Time” this week but obviously everyone else on the show didn’t.
Maher who at one point in the show compared Congressional Republicans to late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, got a huge laugh and Savage said softly “Unfortunately not exactly like him. I wish they were all f**kin’ dead.” Not a great thing to say. But obviously not meant as a part of the dialogue on the panel. And Savage apologized on his blog “The Slog” for it directly after the show when it was pointed out to him.. (Read more and see the video of Dan on “Real Time” after the jump)
“I was on Real Time with Bill Maher tonight. I was talking to someone at the party after the show, and they asked me how I thought it went. Okay, I said—and then I told them that I said something really, really stupid, half under my breath, and I was relieved that Bill and the rest of the panel didn’t hear it. But folks watching the show at home might have heard it… so… I want to apologize for… um… wishing all Republicans dead.
I don’t feel that way. My dad is a Republican. (Well, he says he’s an independent, but he hasn’t voted for a Democrat since JFK. My dad is a Republican.) I’m fond of Michael Bloomberg and William Weld and Lincoln Chafee, and I wish no harm—save the political variety—on those Republicans I loathe. Even the one Republican I really had it in for once upon a time—Ronald Reagan—managed to outlive my anger.
It was a stupid, rude, thoughtless remark. I regret it and I retract it and I apologize to anyone watching at home—particularly my father (!)—who may have heard me say it. I had a drink before the show—first and last time I’ve ever done that—but this wasn’t a case of, “In vino, veritas. This was a case of, “In vino, stupidtas.”
Okay it was stupid comment on Savage’s part and he did apologize. But that didn’t stop Andrew Breitbart who’s usually stayed clear of any LGBT issue of taking Savages comment, running with it and launching an all out attack on him which is strange considering that Savage is not a politician. He’s just a gay rights advocate. Savage doesn’t control Unions, or the budgets, and has no real power in politics. Actually the only real thing he’s done is helped many confused kids not try to kill themselves via “It Gets Better” and give them hope. So why in the world would Breitbart try to destroy or tarnish that? And no other answer makes sense except that Breitbart is also a typical GOP hateful homophobe. Rank and file, goosestep and all.
You never hear from Brietbart when GOP politicians like , Bachmann, Hartzleer, Huckabee, Santaorum, Foxx, and many more constantly compare being gay with polygamy, incest, and beastiality? Or when GOP backed Right Wing religious hate groups such as the Family Reseach Council, American Family Assocaition and Focus on the Family call for your imprisionment and call AIDS the punishment against homosexuals. And this once again shows that the GOP is cemented together in in their hate, bigotry, and bullshit and stand together no matter what and will try to destroy anyone who stands against them no matter what good that person has done.
As for Dan’s comment. It wasn’t right. But remember the Republicans have said much worse about the gay community out loud, sober and meaning it.
And in a way I truly can’t blame Dan for his comment. Because when you have crazy, hostile, reckless, stupid, hateful and destructive politicians of a Republican political bent consistently inflicting hate, harm and horror on you, your family, your community, for generations you’re going to get angry and you are to make a slip of the lip now and again weather you truly mean it or not.
I got your back Dan.
And as for Brietbart I hope that you now enjoy the legacy of not only being King Douche. But also being a proven hateful homophobic bigot also.
